The lack of language skills and cultural understanding in a foreign land can be emasculating and many basic skills need to be re-learned. A map symbolises an attempt for orientation and belonging in a new world.

About the artist
Richard Denny was born in England in 1967. He moved to Australia in 1989. Much of the second half of his life has been spent traveling, living and working in foreign lands. His first Melbourne solo show ‘The map is not the territory ‘ will be held in March 2010 at PER SQUARE METRE gallery in Collingwood.
