About the artist
Kwan Man Hing was born in Macau, China, and immigrated to Hong Kong with his family when he was 4. He was diagnosed with Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy since his 11, meanwhile, his motor ability has been diminishing. Later, he and his family were granted a flat on the second floor without a lift and far from the city. He then was secluded from the community. Over 20 years of seclusion, Kwan started his painting life. At the beginning, he did his paintings with hands, and now, he paints with his mouth and hands. His artworks show his efforts, physical energy and also the footprints he has made for his life.
Kwan’s works was first exhibited in a rehabilitation center in 1999. His paintings were impressive by his expressive colors and distinctive brushstrokes. Now, it is a good opportunity to let people in other countries understand his works and his world.
