Active Support Workshop - What, why and how? Part 1

This workshop provides practical strategies to implement active support in the workplace - including challenges that may be encountered.

Participants develop a working understanding of Active Support, building on knowledge of the Person-Centred Approaches underpinning current support practice and competencies. It is a 3 hour session utilising the experiences of participants to increase practical understanding within today’s service and policy context.

 

Workshop details

  • When: 10am - 1pm, 15 May, 2012
  • Where: CAE Room B427, 253 Flinders Lane, Melbourne
  • Cost: $198 inclusive of GST

Who should attend

The workshop is specifically designed for disability direct support workers. It will also be valuable for the supervisors and managers of those workers. Learning activities in the session assume participants are working directly with people with disability.

Workshop Content

At the completion of the workshop, participants will have a practical understanding of:

  • Person-Centred Approach (O’Brien)
  • Engagement and Participation (Mansell and others)
  • 5 Levels of Support (Jones et al)
  • Useful Active Support Strategies
  • Challenges and other responsibilities (ie Duty of Care, OH&S etc)

A Certificate of Attendance is provided at the completion of the session to participants. This session compliments the nationally accredited units of competency, but it is not an accredited ‘unit’.
