Active Support Workshop - How do I keep it alive? Part 2

This workshop follows the field Active Support Part 1 workshop, and provides strategies for workers in the disability sector to sustain good active support practice in the workplace.


Participants will further develop their understanding of Active Support and Person Centred approaches. The challenges faced in continuous implementation and strategies to deal with these are explored. This session utilises the experiences of participants to increase practical understanding within today’s service and policy context.

  • When: 10am - 1pm, 26 June 2012
  • Where: CAE Room B427, 253 Flinders Lane, Melbourne
  • Cost: $198 inclusive of GST

Who should attend

It is expected participants will have completed the Part 1 workshop or already have a good understanding of Active Support.. This workshop is relevant to both disability direct support workers and their supervisors and managers responsible for the implementation of Active Support. Learning activites in the session assume participants are working directly with people with a disability.

Workshop Content

Participants will be given the opportunity to:

  • Review and renew their understanding of Active Support
  • Share experiences using person centred tool “What’s working/What’s not working.”
  • Work through 6 commonly identified challenges with discussion of strategies to deal with these challenges
  • Clarify roles and responsibilities in practice implementation, measurement, and improvement
  • Identify and develop strategies sustaining Active Support
